Around the World: Italy – A Sensory and Cultural Journey for Young Children
At Mountain Peak Montessori School, we believe that opening a window to the world from an early age is a wonderful way to awaken curiosity, respect and wonder. As part of our “Around the World” project, this week we have travelled to a destination full of history, art and flavours: Italy!
Through sensory experiences, creative activities and proposals adapted to early childhood, the children have been able to engage with Italian culture in a lively, enjoyable and meaningful way.
The children explored typical ingredients of Italian cuisine, such as basil, tomato, mozzarella and oregano.
Through a hands-on activity, they prepared their own mini “pizzas”, stimulating their sense of smell, touch and creativity.
Italian music filled our classrooms, and the children danced to traditional melodies. Some even experimented with musical instruments while imitating the gestures of conductors.
✈️ Discovering Monuments and Traditions
The Colosseum
Using images and block constructions, the children built their own versions of the Colosseum, discovering its circular shape and historical significance.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
Nothing is more exciting than building a tower… and watching it lean without falling! This activity was perfect for developing fine motor skills and encouraging experimentation.
Venetian Masks
In a small art workshop, the children created colourful masks inspired by the famous Venice Carnival, using feathers, glitter and stickers.
🌟 A Project to Grow with the World
The aim of “Around the World: Italy” is not only to learn about a country, but also to:
Open young minds to new cultures
Respect diversity
Value the traditions of other places
Discover that the world is full of beauty and wonderful, diverse people
Each experience in this project strengthens curiosity, creativity and the desire to learn.
Our little travellers have enjoyed a journey full of stimuli, laughter and learning. Italy has given us art, music, flavours and unforgettable moments.
And now… we are ready for the next destination on our journey around the world!
