Around the World” Project: China

At Mountain Peak Montessori School, we believe that curiosity and learning about different cultures greatly enrich children’s education. On this occasion, our focus is on China, a country full of history, traditions, and colours that spark the imagination of our youngest learners.

In line with the Montessori philosophy, our activities allow children to explore China in a hands-on and sensory way:

• Art and Calligraphy: Children experiment with brushes and ink, learning basic strokes of Chinese calligraphy and creating their own characters.

• Music and Dance: Using traditional instruments such as the erhu or simple percussion, children discover the sounds and rhythms of Chinese music.

• Cuisine and Cooking: Through play with food replicas, children explore the flavours, colours, and textures typical of Chinese cuisine, developing coordination and descriptive language.

• Stories and Legends: Tales of dragons, the Moon legend, and Chinese New Year stories foster imagination and a love of reading.

This project not only teaches factual knowledge about China but also promotes empathy, curiosity, and respect for cultural diversity. Children learn to appreciate how other people live, their traditions, and their art, while feeling part of a global and multicultural classroom.
